Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that visiting a podiatrist for the first time can raise questions. Here are answers to the most common questions we receive.
Getting Started
Everything you need to know about booking and your first visit
No, you do not need a referral to see a podiatrist. You can book an appointment directly with us today. However, if you have a chronic condition and are eligible for a Medicare care plan, your GP can provide a referral that may allow you to claim a Medicare rebate for up to 5 podiatry visits per calendar year.
Your first appointment is designed to be comprehensive yet comfortable. We allocate 45 minutes for new patient appointments, giving us ample time to understand your concerns, review your medical history, and conduct a thorough assessment of your feet and lower limbs. We'll explain our findings in plain language, discuss treatment options if needed, and answer all your questions. Follow-up appointments are typically 30 minutes, allowing for focused, ongoing care.
We understand that foot pain can significantly impact your daily life, so we aim to see new patients as soon as possible. Appointment availability varies, but we often have openings within the same week. For urgent concerns, please call us at (03) 9521 0111 and we'll do our best to accommodate you. You can also book online 24/7 through our convenient booking system.
Costs & Insurance
Understanding fees, Medicare, and private health insurance claims
Yes, most private health insurance funds provide rebates for podiatry services under their extras cover. We have HICAPS facilities at our clinic, which means you can process your claim immediately and only pay the gap (if any). This makes accessing quality podiatry care more affordable. Please check with your health fund regarding your specific level of cover and annual limits.
Medicare may cover podiatry services if you have a chronic condition (such as diabetes, arthritis, or a chronic foot condition) and your GP has created an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan or Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan for you. This allows for up to 5 allied health visits (including podiatry) per calendar year with a Medicare rebate. We also bulk bill eligible DVA patients. Please speak with your GP to see if you are eligible.
Services & Treatments
Information about our podiatry services and treatment approaches
We provide comprehensive podiatry care for a wide range of foot and lower limb conditions, including heel pain, plantar fasciitis, bunions, ingrown toenails, corns and calluses, sports injuries, diabetic foot care, arthritis-related foot pain, flat feet, and children's foot development concerns. We also offer custom orthotics, and footwear advice. If you're experiencing any foot or lower limb discomfort, we can help.
The duration of treatment varies depending on your specific condition and goals. Some patients find relief after a single appointment, while others with chronic conditions may benefit from ongoing care. During your initial consultation, we'll discuss what to expect and develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs. We believe in transparent communication – you'll always know what to expect and why we're recommending specific treatments.
We understand that mobility issues or illness can make travel difficult. That's why we provide home visit services for patients who are unable to visit our clinic. We also visit aged care facilities and retirement villages. This ensures that everyone can access quality podiatry care, regardless of their circumstances. Please contact us at (03) 9521 0111 to discuss your needs and arrange a home visit.
About Our Practice
Learn more about our team, qualifications, and approach to care
Yes, all our podiatrists are registered with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) and hold university qualifications in podiatry. Our team has extensive experience treating a wide range of foot and lower limb conditions. We regularly undertake professional development to stay current with the latest evidence-based treatment approaches, ensuring you receive the highest standard of care.
Most podiatry treatments are not painful. We prioritize your comfort throughout every procedure. For treatments like nail care or removal of corns and calluses, local anaesthetic can be used if needed. Some treatments may cause mild discomfort, but we'll always discuss this with you beforehand and work with you to ensure the experience is as comfortable as possible. Many patients find relief from their foot pain after just one appointment.
